Project Accelerated Preparation of Leaders for Underserved Schools (APLUS)
Project Accelerated Preparation of Leaders for Underserved Schools (APLUS): Building Instructional Capacity to Impact Diverse Learners is a three-year, $13.69 million project funded through the Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) Grant Program. The project incorporates multiple innovative approaches to developing school leaders, including opportunities for earning an online master’s degree in educational administration, virtual mentoring and coaching, professional learning environments and communities, and a Summer Leadership Institute. Project APLUS also investigates the efficacy of different types of principal/school leader residency programs.
Project goals include:
- Providing opportunities for 100 in-service school leader candidates to earn a master’s degree and advanced certification for leading the education of English learners (ELs) and low-income students;
- Preparing 1,800 in-service school leaders for building instructional capacity at the campus level in the education of ELs and low-income students;
- Training 100 practicing principals in building instructional capacity at the campus level in the education of ELs and low-income students;
- Readying 200 practicing principals and school leaders (campus leadership teams) for building instructional capacity at the campus level in the education of ELs and low-income students via a Summer Leadership Institute over two summers; and
- Preparing 120 practicing principals and school leaders for building instructional capacity at the campus level in the education of ELs and low-income students via a randomized controlled trial (RCT) with a School Enhancement/Turnaround Intensive Leadership Professional Development Intervention over three years
The project is expected to serve 2,320 Texas principals and school leaders.
